I agree with gopherbroke if you have never grown before, just work on getting your environment totally controlled, every aspect, light, temp, humidity. once you get that down, and you have a few turns under your belt, then go for quality genetics. but for now, just get the learning curve down, and enjoy what you produce for yourself.

You will learn tons, plus I can assure you, your brick/bag seed will surprise you if you grow it in her optimum conditions. If the plant never has to waste energy fighting her environment, she can spend all that energy producing buds and resin. your bag seed might even turn out to be a hearty plant that just had to many variables to make her shitty...aka...grown HUGE commercially with males right along side her, so thats a bunch of energy wasted on seed formation instead of bud formation, next the abusive handling from hacking her down, and gathering it all together, its not like they are manicuring each bud gently, so they are knocking off crystals. then pressing her, popping every single resin gland. Now, it is certainly possible that the genetics are bunk as shit, and you may have just produced generic weed well...still going to taste a hell of a lot better than that bag of brick you bought...plus your not paying outright for shitty nug anymore.....

long and the short of it. pop them beans kid!

Check out my journals, they were all from bagseed, and all have been substantially better than what they came from. I am currently waiting for the last strain I had to reveg, so I can get some clones from it and start a new batch. She put out some crazy good smoke that even had my dealer asking what it is and where it came from.

i grew brick seeds out twice-- they were the hardiest lushest plants but like a few said they all went hermie on me-- and it was about the same smoke wise-- tried outdoor and indoor-- outdoor didn't hermie as fast-- do it up man, at least you'll have buds-- and it's hard to f'em up--

Bag seed is under-rated for sure. Unless it's shwagg, somebody probably particularly picked that strain to grow commercially for a reason.

Money is much better spent on good equipment than good genetics, even with a $100 pack of seeds, if your heat's outa control and your lights are cheap garbage, your not gonna get crazy good weed.

Man, grow on! I would go for it! Why not! If that's all you got! It'll be good practice.

i have mostly grown bagseed and have not regretted it

even if its not the best smoke or has some proplems (hermy) its still free or mostly free smoke. and it is most likely going to be better or even far better than the weed it came from.
