hey mates, i'm in california and i'm looking into getting my cannabis card. I hear you need to bring in your medical records. Is this true? Any advice from me in getting it?

theres going to be three of us getting them. My girlfriend has a history of depression, I have a history of migraines, and my uncle has chronic pain from knee surgeries. :)

Can't say for Cali, but Colorado it's super easy, just have the doctor sign the form and check from the boxes, then send it in with your $90 and then mail it to you. They have a place here that you can have your forms signed by a doctor and you must bring your medical records to them for them to sign the papers showing what your ailment is.:2cents:

Glad you're doing it, and with friends. Good Luck.

i stopped by the "information" center and they said it's $200, includes the dr. appt and one year registration. It's $100 renewal once the year is up. I'm still not sure what happens if you can't provide medical records, as this might be a problem for my uncle since hes from all over the country

From talking with folks in California, if you are going to a reputable doctor, not having medical records might throw up a red flag or slow things down a bit (having to give a history), but if the records are missing for legitimate reasons I don't think would be a problem in the end.

If you're going to a hack, they won't give a damn.

Btw, it's a recommendation. Not a prescription. By law they can't prescribe cannabis. ;)

If you haven't yet, check out California NORML for more info. :smokin:

I live in Cali and I have my medical recommendation. I went to a doctor that moved into my city. What was required was: (1) $160 cash (2) Actual medical records showing a history of the illness (3) an appointment.

I got mine for these terrible migranes I got almost everyday, although I also could have got it for insomnia I think. I don't know if this is needed, but my medical records showed that I had an active prescription for imitrex, a migrane pill.

Let me tell you though, it is important to have a reputable doctor. Two of my friends have their recommendations but from another doctor whos a bit more "lax" and didn't require as much background info. Well that doctor got busted for giving a recommendation to a minor and anyone with that doctors recommendation can't go to about 90% of the clubs around here.

Another thing, if you have a strong backing as to why you should have medical marijuana I would recommend a state card over a medical recommendation. The reason being that some of the clubs now require a california state card for you to go there, where as before all was needed was a recommendation. This trend has been happening over the last month. As to how to get the state card, I'm not sure, I'm trying to find that outmyself.

One more bit of :2cents: . A medical recommendation does not mean your bulletproof with your stuff. I also know one person who has had their stuff confiscated twice on two different occasions even though he had a recommendation with him and showed the officer. Good news was he was written a ticket for possession of MJ and paraphenelia both times but both times it was dismissed immediatly in court. Both times he lost all his stuff.

Goodluck man, if there is enough of us it will be harder to take it away.

Man - as much as all my growing equipment cost me - that really pisses me off. I'd pay a lawyer more than the equipment was worth just for the principle of the thing. That's just flat wrong.

Yeah, we see a lot of wrongs against those who are supposedly protected. Makes me ashamed of our "justice" system.

I thought the California state card was basically the percription (or "recommendation") so your saying i need the recommendation, then i need to apply for the state program? I left the dr's office with the impression you got everything including your state card for the $200 fee...

so the state program is seperate?

Let me clarify a few things.

bluecheese, He was not poped for growing, nor does he grow. If he got jacked twice by the cops for a medical grow then DAMN hes got some serious issues. This is not the case. This guy is just a poor college student, he doesnt have a car and lives with his mom. He pretty much got boned twice on the street, once walking, once riding a bike. How it got to him being searched, I have no idea other than "cop trickery". He basically just lost weed and a pipe both times. The good news though is still, his charges of possession of MJ and parapheneilia were dropped immediatly.

I have no real life knowledge that deals with cops invading a medical grow. I don't think it would be very pleasant though even if you did get off of any charges that were against you becuase you had a recommendation. I assume once your over the legal limit your F*'d. Personally, I don't feel fully protected at all and I am trying to be consantly aware of any security issues I might have.

PrinceXavier I, The state card is very different from the recommendation. From what I understand, if you had a state card and happened to be stopped by the police such as my friend was, you would not have had your MJ taken. With a recommendation it doesn't seem as strong as a case, and usually you will lose your MJ and paraphenilia but you will still be dismissed in court.

I'm pretty sure you don't need your recommendation before you get a state card but I don't see why that wouldn't help. As for getting a state card, as I stated, I really don't know and I want to get one myself. The state card is separate from the recommendation from what I know.

(Everything stated here is only from my personal expierence, I do not know how everything works with regards to recommendations from different doctors nor do I know how to get a state card, this is just my expierence as a medical patient in Cali for 2 years having a recommendation. I thought I should add this as I don't know everything, once again, this is just from what I've seen and expierenced myself)

I hope this helps clarify a few things.
