    Delta

    Oh!

And, over watered pwc is caused by not enough O2 in the water. Better get more in there ... 25ml/g of H2O2 directly in the res every 5-7 days will help.

Butterbean I can't buy all those chems. I live in the Far East, I know they are avalible, but I can't speak the language very well so getting them will be a nightmare. That is the reson I wanted to know if soil ferts can work. I tryed to get Epson salts and I could'nt even get those.
I will try the soil ferts and if I enjoy growing hydro I will order ferts from Holland.
    Cheers

    how far east?
second: can you get soil? it isn't worse..... and you can have a self watering system. Just it doesn't sound logical to do it that way. It may work marginally but there are a lot of problems that are not necessary. Second, you can order the products worldwide or contact say through an 800 number or call long distance ie. General Hydroponics and ask them where the easiest place to go is. Also a lot of places that sell magazines tell you where to get these things as hydroponic magazines are quite popular.

This site locates dealers in common places... but I'm sure they exist elsewhere. Can you buy pot where you are? If so, then there is a way. Also, you should not forget the idea of ordering there is nothing wrong with a fruit & vegetable, ornamental, spice/herb (Parsley, Mint, and more spices) garden.

The reason why I don't want to list problems with the non hydro fertilizer is because they can vary depending on what you are using. For example, if it is organic you risk organisms and fungus gnats feeding on your water or if it has a dye it may color your plant. There may be nutrient defficiencies as the chemicals will not dissolve properly in water or other possibilities. I asked a similar question regarding the alternatives to hydroponic nutrients, a long time ago and got a response from Delta9420 he said the following (more than 2-3 months ago):

I've been converting from commericial fertilizers to raw salts for the past two years. It can be very difficult to find everything you need. I've found a few places online and the best is:

    http://www.medichest.com/

You can buy EDTA quality and they carry everything you need. Here's a complete list of all of the Macros and Micros that are REQUIRED for our hobby (They are listed in order of importance and useage.):

    The Macros
    --------------
Nitrogen (N) - Nitrate or Ammoniacal (or both)
Phosphorous (P) - Super Triple Phosphate, Cheleated
Potassium (K) - Potassium Chloride or Saltpetre

    The Micros
    -------------
Magnesium (Mg) - Epsom Salts (MgSO4)
    Calcium (Ca) - Hydrated Lime
    Sulphur (S) - Epsom Salts (MgSO4)
    Iron (Fe) - EDTA Iron
    Manganese (Mn) - EDTA Manganese
    Zinc (Z) - Zinc Sulfate (ZSO4)
    Copper (C) - EDTA Copper
Boron (B) - EDTA Boric Acid
Molybdenum (Mb) - Hard to Find! Most commercial ferts.
Chlorine (Cl) - Potassium Chloride or Saltpetre

Now, what elements are required and how much? That depends on the size of the plant, the stage it is in, and its medium. Soil is more difficult than hydroponics. Regardless, I've been playing with mixtures for a while now and must say that compared to commercial ferts, you have the ULTIMATE control when using raw salts. It's easier to give them what they need and not worry about OD'ing on something they don't. Plus, uptake seems to be enhanced. Quicker maturation.

Want 0-1-0, 1-0-0, 0-0-1, 1-1-1, 1-2-3, .... you name it, no problem ... Zinc or Iron deficient, no problem. It's the final level. And, it's way cheaper than commercial fertilizers. I spent less than $60 on my chems and I've had them for over 18 months ... got tons of everything left. Can't imagine running out for another couple of YEARS!!! No more trips to the garden store.

Plus, if you use EDTA quality salts, you are dye free and all natural!! I've tried them all and salts are the ****. Don't be sold!
