Ethanol re-extraction of Butane hash oil

I was watching the video on making Simpson oil and the guy suggests adding a few drops of water to the mixture as it nears the end of boiling off. Apparently the H2O binds with the solvent and helps to drive off every last bit of it. He was using naptha though, not hexane. So I'm not sure if this still applies, but it makes sense that it would.

arkady2300, or anyone with knowledge about this, feel free to chime in. I finished my HHO extraction and it's very light amber color a week or so ago and kept it in my dish. When I came back to it, it was in solid form stuck to the bowl, and I read from a few posts including by arkady2300 to redissolve in Ethanol. I did this by putting a coffee warmer underneath and stirred the HHO into ethanol, but for some reason it won't dissolve fully. I've enclosed a picture to show you what I mean. My guess, is that this is wax and won't ever dissolve into the Ethanol and should be filtered out. I also saw somewhere on a post, that you can winterize it by freezing this for a day and then filter out, but don't know if this is really needed. Any feedback is greatly appreciated.

Yes you gunna wanna filter that stuff out thats the concrete leaving your absolute, if you freeze the ethanol (winterize) you will exclude a little more wax from your hashish-ethanol suspension. Hexane provides a couple of distinct challenges to the extractor, you might need to do multiple washes to get rid of all the hexane taste. You should also check out greywolf's saltwater bath tech.

I just stumbled onto this from a google search, and i just cannot believe its actually from Yesterday/Today. Usually when i look for something very specific and obscure on google, its from 2006 and completely useless. Thanks google. I can't tell you how pleased i am to find this post.

    ANYWAYS.....
I already did a Butane extraction with about 32 ounces of shake. Normally i only do really small batches and i don't have much of a problem purging off the butane (i just extract over a hot water bath or double boiler with pyrex, and a little bit of vacuum purge SOMETIMES). However, since i did this one with so much all at one time, even with a double boiler setup (and probably because its 40 or 50 degrees outside, normally i have only done this when it was above 90) the butane did not all "cook off"

..........and now i'm left with runny black tree sap like substance that won't harden or stop bubbling no matter how long its over the double boiler.

oOHHHH yeah, one last thing, it got a little water in the mix from a light rain. Don't Ask me why it was left outside in the rain, cause it was someone helping me in their infinite wisdom, i wish i had somewhere to do it at my own house.....
it didn't seem to be a big deal, i just poured it off the top and put it back on the boiler, but this has never happened before and i don't know if this has anything to do with my current results.

BUT FINALLY, i was thinking that something like this would be the answer to my problems... but this is the first detailed explanation of what i was contemplating i have been able to find online. MY QUESTION is do you think that this would work? Is it ok that there is a small amount of butane left in my oil? Will the Alcohol purge that off? What about the water? is that a big deal?

If pictures would help, i can post those, let me know.

THANK YOU SO MUCH IN ADVANCE FOR ANY HELP!!!

Yes pictures are okay. 190 proof Ethanol will let any trapped butane boil off, using less then 190 proof might negativity effect your oil. The dark runny nature of the oil might be from Decarboxylation of the Hashish, which as long as you did not cook it so hot as to boil off the THC, the runny consistency isn't bad, just not terribly marketable. Your going to want to boil off the ethanol in as thin a layer as possible it might take a couple of plates of ethanol - hash suspension to achieve this. I will have to get greywolf to post up his saltwater tech here if a lot of people have cleaning non-polar extraction questions.

post script: okay; so, to answer the water question; the ethanol will boil off at about 150f; the water will at 212 degrees your water based double boiler wont be as efficient at boiling off the water in the mix (why a lot of the serious faces use oil baths), the hashoil wont get hotter then the carrier solvent; be it butane, ethanol, hexane, or water. good luck and god speed.

The hottest its ever been is over the double boiler, so i don't think i've boiled off any of the THC.... Right?
I put a small amount in the over at 170-180 degrees experimenting, that should be ok too.....Right? (if not no biggie, its not much just wondering if i should add that back in or no....)

and the water.... i'm pretty sure that just poured off... the Oil/butane/stuff mix i got right now is so thick the water never really got beneath the surface i think its mostly gone. Tonight when i go by my friends i'll take pictures of the before and after.

SHUCKS.....I FORGOT!!! Might have to be tomorrow. Kinda hard these days to obtain 195 diesel or ever clear in north cackalacky these days. I assume thats about the same as the alcohol you used....

So i saw a few comments about the yield, but i didn't really get a set number. I've been getting between 4 and 6gs per ounce on what i'm doing now. You got any idea how much less i'll have after this second purification or whatever you want to call it?

also i assume when you say not marketable, you mean the color right? i'm assuming that at the end it should be about the same consistency as yours no? assuming theres not tons of water in it that is.

If the oil is fully decarboxylated I don't know if it will turn to shatter. You would have to ask jump117 or greywolf. The image Teekan uploaded is a pretty good indication of the amount of undissolvable undesirables (fats waxes and lipids the non-polar solvent extracted) found in an efficient extraction. That is the stuff floating in the suspension your gunna filter out and not smoke. I would suggest getting some 190 proof ethanol (everclear, graves), since your in California you might have to get the alcohol mailed to you from an online wine merchant since it is technically illegal to purchase anything more then 151 proof in CA. I think they sell it in Oregon but before you go on a road trip call up the liquor stores your driving too.

haha its not california, but it doesn't matter i wish it were!!. And yeah i already got someone who was coming to town anyways from south of the border to bring me some 195 proof alcohol. so if it doesn't turn into shatter, will it just be like runny oil or sticky goo? i guess you might not know since you've never messed up like this before it seems... but i figured i'd ask anyways. ATLEAST next time i can do it correctly, and i'll know not to do this again. :/

you think jump117 or greywolf would care if i send them private messages considering i've never even posted here before?
