    Good morning,

Its said by Fox Farm that the OF has enough organic nutrients within the soil to sustain a plant for upto 30 days - this of course depends on how hungry your particular strain is or becomes within it.

A fellow cardholder friend called Fox Farm to inquire about the amount of time the soil is hot for and they responded by saying its written somewhere ion the bag that its good for upto 30 days but, its actually good beyond that as much as 60 or even 90 days again depending on your strains hunger requirements.

I'm almost positive with some of the higher end strains we grow that the soil doesn't stay hot for very long and would (might) require supplemental feeding along the way during flower but, might live comfortably through veg.

Within my own enviroment, I feed regardless, when any given plant destined for the flower tent has been transplanted (Thursday) into their final container using OF after a week or so due to the soil being too wet from the transplant on the first day of feed (Monday).

These supplemental feedings carry the plants through the 2 months plus of flower.

I seriously don't think the soil is "hot" enough to sustain certain strains of MJ while it may be perfectly fine for others. Very strain dependent as well as enviromentally, so many variables in any one grow and I doubt seriously if Fox Farm has much experience cultivating MJ to be able to say confidently that there soil remains Hot for 30 days plus. :2cents:

But, I guess until my plants fall over, dried up and dead looking caused by some catastrophic reason having to do with soil and/or nutrient choice i've no reasons to change what I feel has been working flawlessly for me any time soon. Your mileage obviously varies.

    Have a Great day

    yea i agree...

i dont understand how FFOF has been too strong for some ppl???? :confuse:

i grew two plants in FFOF side by side and they were the same strain... i watered one with pH'd water and humics... the other one i used nutes on throughout the whole grow... end result was 3.5 ounces(much was wispy) to 5 almost 6 ounces on the one that had been nuted..... plain soil didnt last as long as flowerperiod...

in my experience i'd give it around 60 days life or "hotness" so to speak

after that plants begin to yellow out

Im using happy frog now... but ive never liked it :(... friends love it... but they like to play with bat poop.....

thanks for you replies everyone

I ended up just getting one bag. I'll experiment with it and see.

If it doesn't "wow" me, I see no sense on changing an already good thing. The money saved using promix, puts money towards the extra nutes needed. So, I guess it's moot

CamperDon speaks according to my own experience, too. I do find that I can go 6 weeks with it. I've used FFOF for a lot of other crops too (peppers, eggplant, herbs) and it really goes a long time. In some cases I let plants go all season with no feedings at all and still got good results - these were basil, thai pepper, and lemon balm plants. Probably would have done better with feeding, but still turned out amazing yields and glowed of health.

I've closely followed Redman's grows and we do things very similarly. I use FFOF right out of the bag and its great for about a month with no feeding. Some strains do better with a weak shot of veg nutrient but my Mandalas have not needed it. I give them a veg feeding right after being repotted for flowering, and then switch to weak bloom solution every other watering. I know you have some Mandalas in line, so I would try that... study some of Redman's journals for lots of juicy details.

I have lately been using Roots soil which is very similar, but I tentatively believe I am getting better results with it than I was in FFOF. They're very similar though and both work quite well with no amendment at all. I use the Roots because my supplier has it and its cheaper than the FFOF.

ffof is the only way to go short of mixing your own perfect soil, but who wants to do that!

Been using FFOF for awhile now, i start feeding 2 weeks in. Never had any problem with "hot" soil or shock from starting nutes that early. My plants kick ass as soon as i start feeding

I'm only on my 3rd bag ever of ffof. 1st one had no bugs, last 2 I've had a bunch of tiny white bugs that crawl out out where the soil & pot meet. They gather on the tops of the pots. After a few days of squishing them when i see them, they either get smart and never show themselves again, or they've died off.
