    My fav way

I like to moisten soil in a one gallon pot, poke a hole with my finger to the top of my cuticle (1/4") place the seed in on its side or point down then cover and place under floros that are right at soil level in an area that has a temp of about 85 degrees ;)

I get consistant most excellent results using that method :D

that sounds great but i am planing on germinating with paper towel. And still would like to know if the idea about the sealed plastic container would work and why or why not.
If any one out there knows please leave a message

If the container is sealed, then yes it should keep the towels moist. The warmth would depend on the outside temp.

Personally, I like to avoid the complexities involved with paper towels and just put them directly in a glass of water until they sprout.

thanks alot but if i place it into a glass of water then what?
does the water have to be cold or warm???
and how long does it usually take for a seed to sprout???
and also can bacteria and fungus grow on the seeds in the water????
if so how could i avoid that???
i know it might seem like i am asking alot of questions but by me asking questions i could try and find out what the most effective and easiest way is to germinate seeds. And in the process help anyone else out there that might be wondering the same thing as me.

    I just used dirt

The first seed i germinated was in a paper towel, and put it in a ziplock bag and put it on a heat register and it worked. Just recentely I had some seeds that i found in an old box and placed them in a 2 gal. clay pot. I then watered them and put the clay pot right next to a space heater. I then left it alone for like 1 week (Actually i forgot) and when i came back to look i had four seedlings sprouted and looking white. So then i put them under the light, and they are green and growing now.

    Basically:

    Warmth
    Water

    Just do it! ;)

Temperature is not as critical as many would have you believe. I use regular tap water and then put a small amount of bleach into it. This will kill the fungus. Just keep an eye on it each day, and plant the seed as soon as it sprouts. Be careful not to touch the root. The time for sprouting depends on the seed. Some take only one day, some take several days. Just keep a close eye on them.

    Note on bleach

    Mornin all.....

Quick note on bleach, thie stuff kills bacteria and also seeds! gotta be careful, someone please post mixing instructions i can see it already, people droping seeds in 50/50 water and bleach!! DON'T DO THIS!!!

Mix should be about 1 DROP of bleach for 1 gallon of water or something like that, and i would'nt insert seed right away, i'd wait a day or so.

Even better, spend 1$ on a bottle of fresh water and use this " as is ".

Planting directly in soil in my opinion is the best since you don't have to touch it with your fingers and possibly break the root! Use styrofoam cups or any small clean container, fill with dirt, wet thoroughly, let sit for a few hours to settle, poke hole with a pen and drop seed about 1/2 inch deep and cover it up. The rest is up to mother nature...

The only reason you start with paper towel is to know if the seed sprouts or not, but just drop in soil and you'll find out soon enough. If it don't take, dumpt it out!

    Et Voila, Fume Fume.
