    About the algae thing.

    Hey Dude.

About the algae thing, are your cups clear or opaque?

Any light penetrating thru your pots will cause algae, you can get cheap painted cups to insert the ones you have already into em to cut down on light.

I've taken my plants thru 5 weeks of plain water with no problems as long as your dirt is descent, if they turn pale yellow or start loosing excessive leaves, then you can fert, but a little at a time is a good rule to follow.

I've always germinated directly into soil, wet your soil thoroughly, make holes in the bottom of the cups and pour water thru it until it comes out the bottom to make sure your don't have dry spots in your soil. you may have mud on the bottom but crispy dry soil on top, this is a problem. When properly watered, you should not have to water again until the seeds sprouts and grows a few inches.

    What strain are they?

Good luck, and be patient, it's not that hard to grow pot, it just takes practice.

    My 2 cents

Well I have come to a conclusion. The reason my paper towel was drying out is because the paper towel was leaning over the sides on the shirt I had between my heat source( ny fridge) . The shirt was sucking all the water from the paper towel. I took and folded the ends of the paper towel so that it stayed on the plate and it didnt dry out half as fast;) It might just had been mine but it worked for me:D

    >About the algae thing, are your cups clear or opaque?

Yes, they are clear plastic cups. And yes, the algae has also been lurking around the sides. Hm. Fortunately, I intend to repot tomorrow to something more permanent. Although, I have got to admit, it has been fun watching the roots develop.

    >What strains were they?

    The seeds purchased were:
    Ben Johnsons
    A3/Bid Bud/Skunk*Mighty Mite
    Amsterdam Flame
    and Prairie Pride

Mostly chosen for their ability for growing outdoors, bearing high yields, and having reasonable flowering periods.

well this is just my expierence-- my first try at this was back in early march- I got 10 seeds from Heavens highway-- I did the papar towel method and 9popped - I really didnt understand the technique of putting them in soil -I just placed them 1/2 in the soil and I think I overwatered them- I also accidently put one in too far in the container and lost it to the dirt- well guess what all eight died and the one that got lost sprouted! - right now Im having problems with it but its not critical right now-I think I fixed the problem. -My second go at it-Heavens stairway-seeds -ok I did 5in paper towel and 5 in dirt-- out of the 10 seeds -one did not sprout - one popped papar towel but it never grew- out of the 5 from papar towel only 1 is growing--the five from dirt - I place two seeds in 1litre water bottles -I cut the tops off and taped the bottle-to make it dark-these are tall about 10inches tall- the other 3 I used plastic party cups- well the two in the tall water cups are the healthiest and have long roots- I could see them when I peeled back the tape on the cup. the other 3 are slowly growing- I transplanted them yesterday and are doing good. But I think that they should be started in long cups 10inches or higher- just my observations-- Im going to use rockwool and see how that goes-- man this is worse than having a reef tank- but not as expensive -my reef tank setup cost $1100 bones-- late

Hm. Stonermaf, you're saying you had better luck just plopping the seeds directly into the soil and letting them germinate there? But how did you deal with the watering. In order to germinate you need to load them up with water. But to sprout you need to hold off a bit. My only guess is that you watered regularly until you saw sprouts and then slowed down.

I am determined to get some seedlings. And have about 40 seeds that have been sitting in paper towels for 2-3 weeks now. To date, only three have sprouted. I have discontinued use of the 3% bleach solution but am not experiencing much success here. I have also been letting them sit on my DVD player for a little heat, but am worried about them drying up. Extra attention is called for. I am giving it. Just afraid of forgetting once. It HAS been a few weeks.

I watered well once then I used a spray bottle to keep the top of the soil moist-- you dont want to overwater them too much or you can rot them. --You should have some sprouts if you kept them that long 3weeks-- They could be just bunk seeds- On my next batch I plan on using the paper towel method and when I see them crack I will put them in soil about 1/2 inch down. I will also use tall containers to do this. It seem that the root digs lower into your container. a short container seems to stunt growth- those are my observations. man seeds are expensive when your a newbie like me. I think I just killed my 1month old plant- I overferted and watered it then I transplanted it with new soil now its wilted and looks terrible -I think IVe killed it. I have 5 sprouts right now hopefully so Im still chugging along. Live and learn I guess I wont make that mistake again-- Late
