    aepaepaep Giggity, Giggity, Goo!

Im very confused now, because I have read a lot of posts/arguments on contams and the fruits that come from contaminated grows. Ive read that it can be extremely bad and transfer poisons/toxins to the fruits, and Ive read that its perfectly fine.

Everybody and there mothers seems to "treat" cobweb mold with h2o2 with great success and no ill effects.

And with green mold Ive seen the majority of people just toss out there grows, although a few I have seen (if they catch it fast enough) to just cut out or scoop out the green mold and apply some salt to stop it coming back.

Im at a toss up here.....

What are you takes on the real truths about negative effects, any links to provide for good reading?

Most of the various types of contamination folks commonly refer to as "cobweb" are among the least toxic and easier to mitigate. Nonetheless getting too complacent about contaminants is very risky business in this hobby. You need to study the issue and decide where YOU wish to draw the line.

I take NO chances; then again you don’t want to be silly about it by seeing “contamination” in every little speck. Mycelium can appear rather fuzzy at times.

Also, don't get me wrong. I don't see Jekkler as being evil, bad, or anything like that, I just think he is being ignorant and taking an undue risk- although stating "I would never suggest to toss it, because the mycellium does not transfer anything negative from contams" is being seriously irresponsible on this issue and could really get someone hurt.

I woudln't risk it with any contamination. Better safe than sorry, especially if the end user isn't yourself.

I literally have no knowledge in this my brother Aep, but when it comes to "us", or ourselves, personal safety, whatever it may be, that needs to come first regardless of anything else.

They could be the best shrooms, but with a little mold or risk involved its just not worth it regardless of the situation.

You now have the knowledge and can apply it to another grow and further better yourself next time. Maybe this time wasnt supposed to be " that time ".

Im sorry my brother. Hope all turns out well in the long run!

Mold toxins (mycotoxins, aflatoxins) are some of the most deadly substances on the planet. Proceed with caution.

I personally dont concider the peeps at shroomery to be experts on the subject. Most of them there just wanna grow some damn shrooms and dont care too much. They also love to flame people with their biased opinions on whatever the case may be. That being said, its your body, you probably arn't going to die if you eat a little mold. Honestly, the stuff is everywhere and the body is designed to deal with small amounts of these toxins pretty rapidly. Chances are you already eat small amounts of them on a daily basis (in bread, beer, dried fruit, nuts etc.). So the judgement call is up to you. Just be sure to eat lots of vitamin C with your mushrooms if you decide to roll with contaminated casings/cakes (neutralizes mold toxins)...

I can vouch for the fact that I've gotten sick after eating shrooms off slightly moldy cakes on more than one occation, so we're not just blowing smoke here. It also greatly depends on the type of mold, some types are relatively harmless while others are highly toxic. Not being a mycological expert I wouldn't take unnecessary chances.

Did you know the biggest reason for getting sick is ingesting mold? Its not because you catch a "bug". bacteria and viruses are everywhere and a healthy immune system can fight them off with ease. Mold toxins compromise your liver and subsequently your immune system which cause you to catch a cold... The reason vitamin C works so well for sickness is it detoxifies your liver from mold and strengthens your immune system. Food for thought. If you notice you get sick a few days after a shroom trip your casings/cakes were probably contaminated. This is also why you easily get stick (and stay sick) after drinking lots of beer... Beer is full of mold toxins.

Sooo, use your best judgement. A little cobweb mold is probably no biggie, but if you start seeing pretty colors... :afro: I'd definetly toss it.
