help seeds

hey guy need some help here . i potted up 4 uk cheese seed about 4 dayz ago and they not grown at all . i put the in water for 2 before i potted them and they crack plz help i am worried they dead i got a 60w light on them this is my 1st grow many thanks paul1409

i usually don't soak for even 24 hours, 16 is usually plenty.

people germ different.. i like to germ out of soil so i can keep an eye on seeds and "assist" any reluctant germers, since seeds are $$$

before i soak, i scratch the side of the seed with a pin or knife, just enough to put a scrape on the outer layer, which helps it absorb water and start to stratify (the chem process of telling itself to germ).

if they still haven't popped for a while, i may try another scratch.

if it gets to be a week, i'll try and prise the seed shell open. this is not easy, as it's very easy to nick the root when you do this, so last resort.

if they're real deep (1/2" or more) right now i'd excavate them and put them protruding from the surface.

thanks guys all 4 was dead wen i look i got other 2 on the go there 1in from top and they been goin for a day il get back to u tonight to see wen i get home from work i never put the light on at night but all day they was getin 18hr of light tho

seedlings aren't using light for a while.. you don't need to run a bulb until the cotyledons are opening.

give em a tiny scratch, an initial soak, keep them somewhere moist but not wet..

i have keep them in water and dark they crack and got them in pot there growin but the top of is black what do this mean ???
