I'm a completely newbie when it comes to gardening so sorry for the possibility of a stupid question.

As I checked on my plant before work, I noticed only 1 of 4 air stones was working in my dwc. I probably need to clean them out but what I'm wondering is this.. the roots are tangled around the stones and the pvc piping I have for the stones (rumple's dwc buld found at this site), is it ok to trim the roots back at all? Eventually I will need to clean the bucket out and don't want to kill my potential mother.

Any advice would be helpful. Thank you

You can trim a little, it will slow down your mom's growth a bit till they regrow and don't take cuttings for a couple of weeks. Just lighten up on the ferts for the first week and you should have no problem.

    happy growin

trimming roots is fine. personally, i wouldn't keep a mother in dwc. i'd keep her in soil, less work and worry. if your mom was in soil you'd have to periodically trim her roots too.

    Good morning,

I agree with Bongo, on keeping Mother's in soil rather then whatever growing medium you use - but, i'm an all soil gardener anyway with all my plants / Moms in FFOF -

currently, all the young ones (new Moms) are in 2 gal contianers having there roots trained by way of successive transplanting til they make it into 3 gal grow bags to live out there life. I usually keep Mother's a little longer then a year taking clones along the way.

On a side note, Mother plants are not on the same feeding schedule as the rest of the grow - they're on more of a maintenance schedule in the feeding department, while the clones and upcomiing flower session plants are on weekly feed schedules depending on how long they've been in fresh soil.

I figure since FFOF is such an organically rich soil, the plants, especially young clones should be able to feed off the soil for at least the first 30 days without supplemental feedings. Thereafter unless there transplanted, they'll begin a feed schedule leading them into a flower cycle at which point flower nutes are given regardless of soil age.

    Have a Great day

I would like, if possible; that people would listen to Camper Don. Maybe then, things will work out!

And to drive the point further; a statement of doubt is better than a sentence of none.

I'm pretty good at it.

    Good day, CamperDon.
