You induce flowering by changing the light schedule; that's the beauty of growing indoors

I must of missed something somewhere, thats why I said they need down time but you replied... ":MJ: is not the type of plant that needs any type of rest period".....did I miss something or mis-type? Always on the lookout for new knowledge especially since things have gone viral with the Medical Grow being allowed now it seems as though a lot of "old school" train of thoughts are being upgraded/changed....Thanks

You said :MJ: needs down time (a dark period), while vegging. This is not true; :MJ: does not need a down time at all. But it's your preference; :MJ: will grow great 18/6 or 24/0

I have used both methods with great results. However, with my grow conditions, I have found that 18/6 makes my plants look better. I think some of it has to do with your growing conditions. My humidity is real low if I run my lights 24/0 in veg. However I can maintain a better humidity level if I do an 18/6 and thus my plants seem to look better. Just my observation. Again, I think some people will have different results depending on their growing conditions.

    Peace....

TOKE, I think you hit the nail on the head! I have done 24/0 & 18/6 and 18/6 always works a lot better for me and is what led me to say they need "down time" and after reading your post I started thinking and YES my humidity due to my growing area is low and I know it must have gotten even lower when the lights were on 24/0....So I think humidity does have something to do with it. I'm going to do a test and take 2 seedlings and put them in another area that I can regulate the humidity and measure the growth rate against a couple in my regular area and see if or how much of a difference it does make.I'll post it after a 3 week growth.

Yeah, keep us up to date on the results. I'm very interested how your experiment works out.

I live where it is so humid.....
(you say) How humid is it?

We just had 2 days where the temperature didn't vary...stayed at 73.
at night this meant 100% pea soup fog
    no visibility
My veg cabinet stays above 50%....I run lamps 24 hr/day with no problems......

    24/0 is 25% more light than 18/6
that's 25% more plant in the same # of days

I do not know if it results in a plant reaching maturity 25% sooner.....I would guess...Yes

    LiveForMusic182 You high bra?

Burndt...it seemed to me that maineweed was saying that resin production has a big role with the lights out..not necessarily pertaining to veg only. Maybe im just stoned...

Burndt that's what I have been taught throughout the years by older old timers then I..lol..and that the down time increased size of bud and that it produced more resin coat and then I also recently read a style of grow called "The Gas Lantern Routine" which I in the beginning of week 3 am now switched over to. The "routine" consists of 12 ON..5.5 OFF..exactly 1 ON of any type of light..5.5 OFF..12 ON...Its a real interesting read, well worth the time it takes to read and will make you think. Here is the link to it let me know what you think as I believe it may become the new industry standard. http://www.420magazine.com/forums/blogs/79044/gas-lantern-routine-growing-cannabis-1719/
