Yes, I have had good luck w/ dome. I used the peat pellets and 4'' clippings. Only 1 in 10 died. Good luck :)

    Hey Smokinrav

So what, all you did was cut the bottom off (I know about how the cola got knocked off) and stuck it in water and put it by the window. You didn't use no humidity dome? Did you just use the window seal for light? I'm about to go cloning happy and was gonna use you method. Thanks for any info:)

    leaves

When you are cloning, if you cut off all the big leaves you will have a higher survival rate. As far as i am aware it is the process of evaporation from the leaves which draws water into the roots, so the large surface area of the shade leaves means the plant will want to transpire more water than it's undeveloped root system can supply. This is why you should try to keep it humid too. If the air around the plant has a high humidity then water does not evaporate out of the leaves as quickly. Just yesterday I put a couple into my lights and within five minutes they had wilted, popped them back on the windowsill and they perked right up again. Patience is definitely a virtue in the growing game :)
As for rooting in water versus other mediums, I clone salvia by putting it in water to root but cannabis I use a rooting hormone and put it straight into the medium I am growing in (which changes depending on what the shop at the end of the road have in stock). The reason I use the rooting hormone with weed is that If you just stick it in water then it will only develop roots at the internodes, give the bottom inch of the cutting a scrape with a razor blade to take off the outside "bark" layer and then stick it in rooting hormone then the whole area in contact with the hormone turns into roots, making a much more robust plant - which mine need to be because sometimes I go away and forget about them... My latest batch of clones only had a 20% survival rate but that was because my pesky bunny got in amongst them and had them for his dinner  :crying:

We have central air, so interior conditions have remained fairly stable, cool and dry. No humidity dome is needed as the plants take all the moisture they need just as if they were rooted, right up the stem. This is why its so important to get em in the water imediatly after the cut, so the wound dosent develop a blockage from air exposure. And yeah, Smoker, right by the window sill, its just that simple. In winter Im gonna just put em under an interior small incansdescent to add a few extra hours of light to keep em in veg.

well..i went cloning happy (5)..I put them in my window..no direct sunlight..in glasses of water...they are doing great..no wilting or anything..they were cut a few weeks into flowering (indica)..have had them in the window for a a little over a week now and I see no roots yet. Since they are doing good do I just let them be and wait?

Should the cola be cut off just above a node?

Well, my one cola and two wee branches have been in daily-changed water since Tuesday now and are still alive. No sign of roots tho'. Just having a proper read of this thread and wondering: my cola came off between nodes - there is like 1-2cm of stem below the bottom-most node. Am I gonna get roots out of this 'pure' stem or should I cut it off somewhere near the lowest node? I had a look in the 'cloning' grow guide but that only talks about cloning branches, not colas!

    first sign of roots

there are three of them coming off the bottom of the stem, but you have to look hard.

They may have been there yesterday, but I wasnt around to look

so how long have they been in the glass of water before you started seeing roots..and are you changing the water daily?

Oh, right, you want me to remember when I put em in the water. I dont know. According to the first pic of the cola-trimmed clones, they were cut on the 4th, so nine days.

Havent changed the water at all. Well, maybe once, early on. But, no question, not since.

I got a couple other things goin on right now:rolleyes: :)

When I did mine I got a coffee can and cut 3 "x"s in it....stuck the stems down through the lid and just added water.....in 4 days i changed the water....and it 8 days I had clones with at least 6 7" roots on them.....I never believed that you could clone that easy because a lot of people make it seem so difficult...me and smokinrav did about the same thing on the same day :) I never used a humidity dome, and the clones only got about 6" of a 24" flo light the whole time they were in there.....

    Peacefully :smokin:,
