US Patent 6630507 - Cannabinoids as antioxidants and neuroprotectants

    Application: filed on 2/02/2001

US Patent Issued on October 7, 2003

Assignee: The United States of America, as represented by the Department of Health and Human Services

Patent 6630507 Issued on October 7, 2003. Estimated Expiration Date: February 2, 2021.

Most folks are aware that the U.S. Government continues to maintain the old drug war refrain that marijuana has no accepted medical value... yet the same U.S. Governmet holds the patent for... are you ready for this... "Cannabinoids as antioxidants and neuroprotectants".

That's right kiddies, your government currently holds U.S. Patent # 6,630,507 claiming: "Cannabinoids have been found to have antioxidant properties... cannabinoids are found to have particular applications as neuroprotectants... limiting neurological damage following... stroke and trauma... or in treatment of neurodegenerative diseases... such as Alzheimer's... Parkinson's... and HIV dementia"
    .
Please, someone tell me how a gov't that incarcerates those that dare to disagree....claiming one thing.... while positioning itself to profit from the exact opposite can be legal or moral..

The government patent should be struck down as an illegally acquired property/intellectual right. The medical efficacy of Cannabis has been known by respected medical professionals for decades... literally centuries. Yet the u.s. government continues to prohibit, under the guise of regulation, the scientific study of the cannabis plant while obtaining the patent for cannabinoids.

    The corporations behind Savitex

Bayer and it's subsidiaries in Spain and Japan , no doubt have a few patents too.

Similar trend in food plants, the government and corporations conduct a scientific study of something that is general knowledge, fill out the paperwork and they own it.

They buy out hierloom vegetable seed companies, then shelve what they don't need. Make it impossible to buy and illegal to grow plants that have been handed down for generations.[Diggers Club]

Seeds that produce plants that produce viable seed for future generations of planting are bad news for corporate types, who prefer to sell seed that only produces one generation then is nonviable; means repeat custom.

Monsato invented a 'terminator gene' that ensures this is so, making any crosses or breeding from plants from said seed, a non event.

Imagine a world where cannabis does not produce seeds, you have to pay $100 a seed, and you see the future of cannabis in corporate hands. lol, nigel

always gonna be some people that will save seeds.

the corporations will die and dissapear one day. (they are officially sorta people now  (means you can run a company and the company is responsible for your actions )

we might lose a few species and strains because of them.

(of course if we end up in bladerunner country, things might get worse )
