Yellowing clone leaves normal? (noob q)

Several days ago I recieved and transplanted a clone. It has rooted well, and is almost in need of being transplanted into an even bigger container.

My question is about the above soil portion of the plant. Many of the leaves have yellowed tips, and some of the older leaves have turned mostly yellow and have dead tips. When I picked it up it was already like this, and I was told that this is nothing to worry about.

Is it normal for this to happen? I suspect it may be because of the fact that it's shooting out roots at such a fast pace. Most of the newest growth is still nice and green, but there has been no new growth since I recieved it. Again I assume this is because the plant is focusing on growing roots, not leaves.

The soil PH seems to be ok, and I have it under 67 (250) watts of floro. Any thoughts would be appreciated. If someone needs pics, I can try to get some up soon :)

Yes, this is normal. The plant has to pull energy from somewhere to start the roots growing, and the bottom fan leaves are the first place it pulls from.

nothing to worry about. Did you give it any nutrients yet? It could probably use a bit more nitrogen in it's diet.

That kind of yellowing usually means NITROGEN deficiency. Since N is mobile inside the plant, older leaves will yellow first since the plant will direct all of its available N to the new growth.

Also, N deficiencies show an overall yellowing like that instead of living the veins green...

You haven't told us how are you feeding her. If you haven't, then it is a good time to start. Use 1/4 recomeneded dosage.

Diagnosis of a deficiency can be tricky, over fertilization can look similar because nutrients lock-up and cannot be absorbed by the roots when there is too much.

I haven't fed her yet, I was actually planning on doing it today after the transplant! Thanks for the diagnoses guys, I really appreciate the help.

I have some waer soluble 24-8-16 all purpose plant food that has seemed to work well before. My soil is high in P and it was reccomended by the nursery I go to so that should be enough to help get the roots going. :)

Thanks again guys! By the end of today she'll be replanted and fed and hopefully a little happier

    good advice:thumbs:

careful with the ferts bro. though yellowing leaves may be an indication of N deficientcy, go easy on the youngsters.:2cents:

    Follow up Questions

Alright! she's been transplanted and fed and I've already noticed new growth.

However, those leaves have become quite yellow and somewhat dried up. I'm wondering if it's a good idea to take those leaves off. Of course I don't want to open up a wound on her but I don't know if she might do a little better without them. Basically I don't know if they're doing her any good at this point, and if they're not, is there a good reason to let them stay?

If they are yellow and drying up, then they are pretty much dead and useless. Don't tear them off, use clippers if you must remove them.

Thanks, I'll give her some time to see if they recooperate at all. If not then I'll snip em.
